St Joseph's Catholic School

Welcome to Year 6!

There are so many wonderful faces full of enthusiasm in Year Six with Mr James Delaney this year.
We have the opportunity to cover many topics and some of our highlights for the year include:
  • Exploring different text types in English: humorous narratives, bush poetry, script writing and feature articles
  • Expanding our knowledge of the four operations through the inclusion of fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • So many exciting hands on experiences in Science, from growing mould, creating electrical circuits, exploring natural disasters and putting on our detective hat to look at chemical and physical changes
  • Delving into HASS through the integration of Geography, History, Economics and Business, and Civics and Citizenship.
  • Within HASS we explore the concepts of G20, poverty, migration, Federation, the democratic system, what a business are and how financial decisions affect the consumer, and the levels of government. A subject with so many real-world connections!
  • We also explore the Arts through Music (taught by Ms O’Loughlin), Visual and Media Arts, Dance and Drama.
  • We will be working with the Year 5s to create an inaugural Stephanie Alexander Garden Project!
We are very lucky to have our School Officers Lisa Vukusic, Rene Winner-Harrison, Sarah Edwards and the assistance of Louise Martin from the Learning Enrichment team, to aid student learning at various times throughout the week.
We hope to inundate you with updates and photographs to observe our growth and learning in the year six class. Check out our weekly homework sheet and newsletter to keep up to date with Year Six.
